Switching to a combi boiler
Remove your hot water cylinder and loft tanks and move to a combi boiler. The conversion work is a fixed £940 on top of the boiler price.
What the conversion involves
- Taking out your hot water cylinder
- Removing the cold water and feed tanks from the loft
- Changing the pipework so the combi heats water straight from the mains
- Fitting and commissioning your new combi boiler
In the boiler finder, answer “Yes, switch to a combi” and the £940 is added to your price as its own line, so you can see exactly what it costs.
Good reasons to switch
- You get back the space used by the cylinder and airing cupboard
- No tanks in the loft that can freeze or leak
- Hot water on demand, without heating a full tank
- A simpler system with fewer parts to look after
When to keep your cylinder
A combi shares its hot water between taps. If your home has two or more bathrooms in regular use at the same time, or you have low mains pressure, a system boiler is often the better choice. We will tell you honestly if we think a combi will not suit you.
Example price
Combi boilers start at £2,289 fitted. With the conversion added, a combi conversion starts from £3,229 in total. Your exact price depends on the boiler you choose.
Questions about switching to a combi
How long does a combi conversion take?
Usually a little longer than a straight swap, because the cylinder and tanks come out and the pipework changes. We confirm timings when we call to confirm your date.
Will my water pressure be good enough?
A combi relies on your mains water. We check the pressure and flow on the day. If they are too low for a combi to work well, we tell you before we start and talk through the options.
What happens to the space where my cylinder was?
You get the airing cupboard back. Many people turn it into storage or shelving.
