System and regular boiler installation
Keep your hot water cylinder and replace your boiler like for like. System boilers fitted from £2,474 and regular boilers from £2,449.
Why keep a cylinder?
A cylinder stores hot water ready to use, so several taps and showers can run at the same time without the flow dropping. That makes system and regular boilers a good fit for homes with two or more bathrooms, larger families and homes with low mains water pressure.
System boilers
A system boiler heats a sealed heating system and an unvented or vented hot water cylinder. The main parts are built into the boiler, so installation is tidy and there are no tanks in the loft.

Regular (heat only) boilers
Regular boilers, also called heat only or conventional boilers, are common in older houses. They work with a cylinder and a cold water tank in the loft. Replacing one like for like is usually the simplest and lowest-cost option for these homes.

Questions about system and regular boilers
What is the difference between a system and a regular boiler?
Both store hot water in a cylinder. A system boiler has the pump and expansion vessel built in and is fed from the mains, so there are no tanks in the loft. A regular boiler is usually fed from a cold water tank in the loft and has a small feed and expansion tank too.
Can I replace a regular boiler with a system boiler?
Often, yes, but it means changing your pipework and usually your cylinder, so it is priced after a look at your system. Call us or use the contact form and we will advise.
Do I need a new hot water cylinder?
Not usually. A like-for-like replacement keeps your existing cylinder. If it is leaking or very old, we will tell you and give you a price before doing anything.
